Diversity and Inclusion are relatively new words in management and leadership, having emerged in the early stages of the 21st century, but becoming more and more important in organizational  day-to-day operations.  Diverse companies are highly innovative, demonstrate better problem-solving capabilities, achieve deeper understanding of complex marketplace nuances, and make superior business decisions. Not surprisingly, they attain the highest rates of talent acquisition and employee satisfaction, and tend to outperform their counterparts; research studies show that they bring in more revenue, in some cases “15 times more than companies with the lowest levels of diversity” according to the American Sociological Review.

Our March panel presentation will focus on:

  • What exactly is diversity and inclusion?
  • Are you leaving your business on the table not incorporating inclusion and diversity in your strategy?
  • How can they help you in revenue generation and customer retention?
  • What are some prevailing market changes, with regards to diverse market segments?
  • What kind of innovative approaches exist to market these heterogeneous groups?
  • How can you be ready and prepared to target them?

Our Panel Team will consist of:

Karen Young, VP & Chief Inclusion Officer of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a regional health services company serving members throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Ms. Young is responsible to catalyze and advance Harvard Pilgrim’s company-wide commitment to put inclusion in the forefront of everything they do. She is the recipient of the 2020 Carl Sciortino Ally Award from the Massachusetts Transgender political coalition, and has received the Compassion, Courage & Professionalism Award from the Northeast Human Resources Association for her practice of human resource management.

Kris Puskar is Senior VP and Business Banking Sales and Innovation Director of Eastern Bank. Mr. Puskar brings significant experience in sales colleague development and customer satisfaction enhancements across business banking in a 12-state branch network with more than 350 colleagues. He has led more than 75 business bankers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York, and has developed a deep cognition of how inclusion yields superior outcomes inside as well as outside the organization.

Karen A. Whitley is a Shareholder in the Labor & Employment Litigation Practice groups in the Boston office of Sheehan Phinney Bass & Green, PA. She works closely with HR departments and ensures legal compliance in all phases of the employment relationship; she conducts internal investigations, and provides proactive harassment and diversity training to organizations. Ms. Whitley recently represented a 200-employee organization as it addressed high-profile concerns about racial and religious discrimination and assisted in developing and implementing a multi-faceted approach to improve its diversity and inclusion efforts.

The question session will be moderated by Susan Barber, Vice President of Operations and General Manager of New England Business Association. She is responsible for sponsorship development and oversees product offerings and the association’s communications and messaging. Susan has extensive experience in marketing operations management for high tech companies, marketing communications, event planning and new product launches. She holds an MBA in Finance and Business Strategy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Masters from Brandeis University. In addition, she is certified in Inbound Marketing, Six Sigma Processes (Green Belt and Lean Six Sigma), and Worksite Wellness and Plant-Based Nutrition.
