Globally there are 100 million people affected by Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB). In the US alone 1 out of 5 people have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), 25% of men middle aged men suffer from it, and 80% of all those diagnosed with OSA use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Machine.
SoClean, the New England Innovation Award Winner of 2017, is the world's first automated CPAP equipment cleaner and sanitizer. It is the faster, easier, and more effective way to clean CPAP machine equipment. SoClean kills 99.9% of CPAP germs and bacteria in the mask, hose and reservoir with no disassembly, no water, and no messy chemicals in order to enhance a CPAP users experience.
SoClean Inc. was incorporated in July of 2011 by Michael Schmidt, President of the company. Tim Levya, then a VenMill employee, helped with the invention of SoClean. Both were intimately familiar with sleep apnea and recognized the many challenges faced by CPAP users. The goal in starting the new company was to find, develop and fund products that improve people’s lives.
Although the company incorporated in 2011, its story really begins in 2007, when Mike joined VenMill Industries; VenMill was on a decline at the time, and needed change. Mike saw a dedicated and talented small group of people who had the work ethic, desire to succeed, and team support for a common goal. That group of people subsequently became the SoClean Group.
Mike Schmidt has extensive background in marketing and new product development. He has served as the Vice President of global business for Nilpeter, Denmark (a leading global manufacturer of label and narrow-web printing machinery, based on flexo, offset and ink jet technologies); Mike began his career being part of the team that conducted test marketing and market development for General Foods, Birds Eye division.
